Science Controlling the Forces of Electricity and Steam, Labor Sustaining Art and the Family, 1880-1885 (1882; 1883)

Location: Franklin Park, Seaver St., Dorchester, Boston

Description: For about fifty years the two groups adorned the Boston Post Office and Sub-Treasury Building. One hundred feet above street level, they surmounted the four-story projecting pavilions flanking its entrance. Preliminary to the demolition of the building, they were removed to Franklin Park. French is recognized as America's greatest architectural sculptor. These are early examples of his work.
