Statue of General William Draper, 1910-1912 (1911), by Daniel Chester French (with F.H. Packer, who sculpted the horse)

Location: General Draper Park, Main St., Milford

Description: General William Franklin Draper (1842-1910) formally presented the equestrian statue of General Devens to Worcester County in 1906, little knowing that someday an equestrian of himself, also by French, would be unveiled. While twenty-two years of age, after nearly four years of active service, he had received the brevet ranks of colonel and brigadier-general. Owner of the family firm which manufactured cotton machinery, he was "the leading expert in spinning machinery in this country." He was a Republican U.S. Congressman (1892-1896) and the ambassador to Italy from 1897 to 1900.
