The Minute Man Statue, 1871-1875 (1874) Location: West bank, North Bridge, The Minute Man National Historical Park, 174 Liberty Street, Concord. The statue may also be approached with less walking involved from the east (British) side of the bridge, Monument Street, Concord. Description: The first statue that French ever made was unveiled on April 19, 1875, the one-hundredth anniversary of the Concord Fight. It brought him immediate fame and has become an American icon. The citizen farmer's facial expression and stance, one hand holding a musket and the other on the plow, his jacket close by, all bespeak his readiness to defend his country at a moment's notice. |
