Burnside Memorial Fountain, 1911-1912 (1912)

Location: at the corner of Front and Franklin Sts., on the common, Worcester. Its original location until 1969 was across the street where it was a central feature of Salem Square.

Description: Harriet Pamela Foster Burnside (1825-1903), member of one of Worcester's most prominent families, gave funds to the town for a watering fountain for horses and dogs. It was the joint work of four men: architect Henry Bacon (1866-1924), designed the fountain, sculptors Charles Y. Harvey (1869-1912) and Sherry E. Fry (1879-1966) began and completed, respectively, its surmounting "Boy with a Turtle," and French supervised.
