George Robert White Memorial, 1922-1924 (1924)

Location: Northwest corner of the Public Garden, near Beacon and Arlington Sts., Boston.

Description: George Robert White (1847-1922) was Boston's largest individual taxpayer for much of his adult life. After his death, his philanthropy continued. His will created a charitable trust and left funds for a memorial. French presents not a portrait of White's physical appearance but an allegorical representation of his philanthropy: a fountain statue of an angel, "The Sower," casting bread upon the waters.
