Statue of Governor Roger Wolcott, 1905-1907 (1906)

Location: Opposite main staircase, third floor, State House, Beacon St., Boston.

Description: The seated bronze statue is flanked by marble reliefs of a soldier and a sailor. Roger Wolcott (1847- 1900) won the then annual gubernatorial elections of 1896, 1897, and 1898, serving from 1897-1899. He declined to run for office in 1899 and died greatly mourned the following year. This work honors him and the Massachusetts men who served in the Spanish-American War. It was funded by public subscription.
