Boston Public Library Doors: Music and Poetry (left pair), Knowledge and Wisdom (middle pair), Truth and Romance (right pair)1894-1904 (1897, 1898, 1902)

Location: Doors of the main entrance to the Public Library, Copley Square, Boston.

Description: Instead of the traditional multiple small scenes on each leaf of the three double doors, French sculpted one figure. In exquisite low relief and with symbolic attributes, the figures personify, left to right, "Music," "Poetry," "Knowledge," "Wisdom," "Truth" and "Romance." Of all his sculptures in a career of more than sixty years, French was most proud of this work.
