In addition to French's larger public projects, he also completed several smaller public memorials of local figures. Plaster sketches and studies of these commissions can be found on display in the Studio. Examples include the Washington Irving Memorial in Irvington-on-Hudson, NY and the Spencer Trask Memorial in Congress Park, Saratoga Springs, NY.

French also received commissions for smaller, personal funerary sculptures. The studies for the Clark Memorial in Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA depicts angels kneeling that French's daughter modeled for when she was 5 years old.
