Polyester resin with stone finish (from the Fountain in the Chesterwood Studio Garden)
Indoor/outdoor: 19”h x 14” w x 15” w
This wall hanging was reproduced from the fountain in front of the Chesterwood Studio. The fountain is decorated with reliefs (or frieze) of dancing putti with garlands of fruit festoons, and ribboned rosettes surrounding the base. Daniel Chester French sculpted the figures and Henry Bacon (architect of the Studio) designed the fountain, which was cast in marble cement 1911 in the Chesterwood Studio by Vincenzo Russo.
The putto was a popular motif in the second half of the 19th century, particularly in the Renaissance Revival. They were often associated with feelings of joy, peace, and prosperity.
